Oregano to help relieve digestive problems

The amazing benefits of oregano are vast.

Here is a background on this herb. Oregano is an aromatic herb and is common from the Mediterranean region. The original Greek word was “oreganos’, translated to ‘Delight of the Mountains” because of the fragrance it exuded, described as complex, warm and spicy. The Greeks believed that if their cows ate oregano it would give the meat a better flavour. Oregano is rich in vitamins and minerals including Vitamins A and C, Niacin, Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc, Iron, Potassium, Copper, Boron, and Manganese. This herb also contains other chemicals that have added benefits that support your body such as thymol and carvacrol. These components discourage the growth of microorganisms, which is supported by scientific research. Oregano is also strong in antioxidants, which help with free radical damage. There are different plants throughout the world that are called oregano and therefore have different chemical constituents. The active ingredient, carvacrol, is found in high amounts in the true form of oregano “Origanum vulgare”. With oregano herbal supplements it is often in a highly concentrated form, which provides you with a quality plant remedy containing all of the volatile oils intact.

The most known benefit of oregano is in its ability to destroy many different kinds of pathogenic (disease-causing) microorganisms. It is even stronger than the commercial preparations of phenol, which is a well-recognized medical antiseptic. Disease causing microorganisms including bacteria, fungus, virus and parasites are involved in illnesses ranging from colds and flues to gingivitis of the gums, athlete’s foot, Candida and bowel irritants such as IBS. In studies oregano has been shown to inhibit and destroy E. coli, Candida albacans and the bacterias that cause strep and staff infections. It has also been sued for gas and bloating, diarrhea, and digestive problems, as well as sore throats and minor breathing difficulties. Oregano as an oil can act as an immediate first aid for insect bites and minor cuts and scrapes as well as dandruff, diaper rash and other skin disorders. There are no known adverse effects of oregano oil unlike the pharmaceutical drug antibiotics, which causes the development of resistance strains of bacteria. There are loads of scientific research done on oregano and its benefits. References: 1. Talpur et al. medicinal herbal oils: Antifungal effects of the edible Oil of Oregano.
